Alkyonides Varkiza

What we did

  • Initial Consultation:  We began the project by meeting with the restaurant’s chef and owners to fully understand the concept, theme, and cuisine of the restaurant.

  • We discussed their vision for the menu, including the desired tone, style, and any specific elements they wanted to highlight.

  • Research & Inspiration: Our design team conducted research into contemporary menu designs, focusing on how color and layout can influence customer experience. We explored various color schemes and ultimately recommended a turquoise palette, which evokes feelings of calmness and sophistication.

  • Design Concept Development: We created initial design mockups, incorporating turquoise as the primary color, complemented by subtle accents in neutral tones.

  • The typography was carefully chosen to reflect the restaurant’s brand, balancing readability with style.

  • Collaborative Refinement: After presenting the initial designs, we worked closely with the chef and owners to refine the layout, making adjustments to the organization of dishes and descriptions.

  • We ensured that the menu design not only looked great but also enhanced the overall dining experience by making it easy for customers to navigate.

  • Final Design & Delivery: Once the design was approved, we finalized the artwork and prepared the files for print.

  • We also provided digital versions of the menu for online use, ensuring consistency across all platforms.

  • This collaborative approach allowed us to create a menu that is not only visually appealing but also aligned with the restaurant’s identity and goals.

Alkyonides - Varkiza, a historic restaurant, as it has been located on the beach of Varkiza for over half a century.

When the restaurant owners assigned us their corporate identity, their initial plan included changing the name.

After briefing and market research based on the previous changes made to the restaurant by its former owners, we concluded that it was better to keep the name the same, as it is iconic for this location.

For the design of the menu, it was necessary for us to get in touch with the restaurant's chef as we wanted him to explain the philosophy behind the dishes he had created so that we could capture their flavor on paper.

For the menu format, we chose a design larger than traditional menus, one that would convey the prestige of the restaurant. For printing, we preferred paper with a textured finish for greater volume and better quality, as we did not want to laminate the menu.
